Daucher And Dubin Named Athletes Of The Week

May 8, 2017

Miranda Daucher had an outstanding performance at the Jim Thorpe Open this past weekend. Daucher placed first in two events: hammer and discus throws. Daucher threw for a distance of 53.35m/175’ in the hammer throw for first place. Daucher’s distance of 48.22m/158’ 2” in the discus throw landed her in first as well.

Junior Shawn Dubin put together another fantastic outing on the mound on Sunday for the Bulls as he claimed his team-leading fifth win of the season. The hard-throwing righty was able to go 6.0 scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and striking out a career-high 11 batters as UB handed Miami the 1-0 loss. Dubin was nearly unhittable all game long as he struck out seven straight batters between the first and third innings after allowing his lone extra base hit of the day, a double, in the first inning. He finished off his afternoon retiring the final six batters of his day. Dubin backed up his nine-strikeout outing last time out with a career-best 11 strikeouts on Saturday. The 11 strikeouts are the most by a Buffalo pitcher since Brent Cleland fanned 12 Kent State batters in 2014. Over his last two outings, Dubin has been absolutely lights out in his last two outings on the mound as he owns a 2-0 record with a 0.00 ERA and a .156 batting average against. He has allowed just seven hits, no earned runs and fanned 20 batters across the 13.0 inning stretch. On the season, Dubin has notched a team-best 61 strikeouts through 60.0 innings of work while leading the Bulls with a 5-2 record.
