Dillard And Akins Named Athletes Of The Week

November 27, 2017

Junior guard Cierra Dillard was a key factor in the Bulls unbeaten 2-0 weekend at the San Juan Shootout in Daytona Beach, FL as she helped UB prevail over Big Ten foe Nebraska and ACC member Clemson. The Rochester, NY native was able to average 15.5 points, 5.0 steals, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists across the two wins over Power 5 foes. On Thanksgiving day, Dillard exploded offensively after filling in at the point for injured guard Stephanie Reid as she went for a Buffalo career-high 25 points, six steals, three rebounds and three assists across 36 minutes of work. Dillard was all over the floor and took over the game in the second half as she went 7-for-16 from the floor, 5-for-11 from behind the arc, a season-high for three-pointers made, and 6-for-7 from the charity stripe. In the second game of the tournament against Clemson, Dillard wasn't able to get it going offensively but still affected the game in many ways. The junior finished the 20-point victory over Clemson with six points, a season-high six rebounds, four steals and three assists in 31 minutes of action.

Kyle Akins won his only match of the week for the Bulls, but what a win it was. In the opening match of the dual, the redshirt-junior pinned Ohio’s Coleton Chase just 2:31 into the match to set the tone for Buffalo’s 27-9 win over the Bobcats. It was the Bulls’ first win over Ohio since the 2008 season.
