Ford And Lewis Named Athletes Of The Week

Freshman Tess Ford had her best weekend of her young UB career this weekend as she helped propel Buffalo to a 2-0 record with wins over Canisius and St. Francis (PA). The freshman defender was a monster on set pieces all weekend long as she was able to notch the first two goals of her UB career with five shots. She also helped the Bulls preserve their fourth shutout of the season on Sunday with her strong defensive effort. On Friday, Ford was able to convert on a corner kick as she gathered the ball and buried it into the right corner of the net for her first career marker. The freshman also finished with a career-best three shots in the 2-1 win. On Sunday, Ford had another strong match on the set pieces as she netted her first career game-winning goal in the 52nd minute on a Gurjeena Jandu corner. Ford also helped the Bulls earn their fourth clean sheet of the season and fourth in their last five matches during their current five-match winning streak. The freshman played all 180 minutes on the weekend.

Cameron Lewis had four tackles and two key interceptions in Buffalo’s 36-29 win over Temple at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday. Lewis’s first interception came in the endzone to thwart a Temple scoring threat. Later, with the Bulls trailing 14-12 in the third quarter, Lewis made his second interception at the Owls’ 26-yard line. It led to a touchdown that put the Bulls ahead, 19-14. Lewis became the first UB player since Okezie Alozie in 2015 to have two interceptions in the same game.
