Policies & Procedures

UB identification is required for entrance to all recreation facilities. 

All members must wear standard workout clothes (shirts, tights, gym shorts, jogging suits) in the Fitness Center. 

  • Shirts (covering chest, torso and back) are to be worn at all times.
  • Sneakers or aerobic shoes must be worn at all times.
  • Opened toed footwear is not allowed.

Personal belongings are NOT permitted on the workout floor or on the fitness equipment (Purses, jackets, hoodies, sweaters, extra clothes).

Abuse or misuse of the equipment will not be tolerated.

Equipment should be wiped down after every use. Spray bottles and towels are provided.

Re-rack your weights and return all accessories to their proper location.

Banging and/or dropping of weights is NOT permitted. 

Chalk is NOT permitted in the Fitness Center.

Use a spotter when lifting heavy weight.

Members are NOT permitted to move machines.

Members shall NOT solicit or perform personal training unless conducted by Recreation & Intramural Services Staff.

Video Recording is NOT permitted in the Fitness Center.

Food or drinks, with the exception of water, are NOT permitted in the Fitness Center.

Offensive or profane language is prohibited.

Be respectful to the Fitness Center staff, as well as other members working out. Verbal or physical attacks will be addressed by management and University Police.

All signs posted in the Fitness Center shall be accepted as part of the rules and regulations.

The following list includes, but not limited to, items/activities that are NOT permitted: 

  • Bicycles
  • In-line Skates
  • Audio/Video Recording
  • Animals (except guide dogs)
  • Smoking
  • Alcohol
  • Spitting
  • Hanging on Rims
  • Fighting, Abusive Language & Profanity
  • Weapons
  • Illegal Activities
  • Other Unauthorized Activities

All members are responsible for their own conduct upon entering the facilities. Misconduct will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Recreation and Intramural Services staff reserves the right to revoke or terminate Fitness Center privileges from individuals who disregard the rules or exhibit inappropriate behavior.

Facility Reservation: Utilization is on a priority system with physical education classes taking precedence, followed by varsity athletic events, varsity team practices, intramural activities, sport clubs, and general use by UB students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community at large. Lost & Found: All found items are usually dropped off at Member Services in Room 175 in Alumni Arena. All unclaimed items over a period of 14 days will be turned over to University police. Proper identification of the person and of the item in question must be made to facility staff before the item is returned.
