2013: Had one of the best seasons in program history as a pitcher... won eight games, second most in program history... threw for 101.2 innings over 14 starts, both program records... threw three complete-game shutouts... struck out 75 batters, and allowed just a .222 batting average... First Team All-MAC... as the team’s starting shortstop, he batted .266 with 21 RBI and nine doubles, with a career-best fielding percentage of .950... had nine multi-hit games... named to The Perfect Game’s Summer College All-America Team after a big season for the Holyoke Blue Sox of the New England Collegiate Baseball League over the Summer... led the league with 65 innings pitched... put up a miniscule 0.55 earned run average, with 56 strikeouts and just nine walks allowed... earned the Robin Roberts Award, recognizing the league’s top pitcher.
2012: Maintained his starting job at shortstop, but also developed into the team’s Sunday starting pitcher after maturing into one of the team’s best hurlers... won five games and posted a 4.28 earned run average, striking out 55 batters in 69.1 innings... gave up two hits and walked no batters while striking out seven batters in seven innings against Canisius (4/10)... moved into the conference weekend rotation, making five starts and pitching 34.1 innings in MAC play, allowing only 15 earned runs... helped to aid the team’s playoff push, allowing just one run over seven innings in a 6-2 win at Toledo (5/6)... at the plate, he batted .290 with four home runs and 25 runs batted in... stole four bases and drew 14 walks... had 15 multi-hit games and eight multi-RBI games... batted .500 (17-34) over his nine-game hit streak (3/18 - 4/3).
2011: Started 43 games as a freshman, playing mostly at shortstop while also serving as the team’s mid-week starting pitcher... at the plate, Burke batted .261 with 19 runs batted in and 41 total hits... had 10 multi-hit and four multi-RBI games... hit a home run in his first collegiate game, against New Mexico State (2/26)... as the team’s pitcher, he made five starts and threw 23.1 total innings, striking out 17... named to the Prospects League All-Star team for the Lorain County Ironmen, batting .344 with 10 extra-base hits and 28 runs batted in over 52 games.
High School: Three-year letterwinner for the St. Ignatius Wildcats... led the team to a 21-5 record as a senior, batting .420 with five home runs and 29 runs batted in... as a junior, he broke the school’s batting average record after hitting .573, a mark that still stands... made the First Team All- Cuyahoga River Baseball Conference as a junior and a senior... member of the Cleveland Plain Dealer Seven County All Star Team as a junior... helped the Wildcats to three sectional championships, two district championships and two appearances in the state championship’s final four.
Personal: Born August 27, 1992... son of Michael Burke and Christine Ellzey... will major in Nursing... volunteered at the William Patrick Day Early Childhood Center... was also recruited by Cleveland State, Michigan, Kansas State, Xavier and MAC rivals Miami (OH) and Kent State... also enjoys playing basketball, working out and watching movies... favorite music is heavy rock and R&B.
