BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo football head coach Lance Leipold has announced senior linebacker Jarrett Franklin will wear No. 41 this season to honor the legacy of former teammate Solomon Jackson who passed away in 2016.
"It is a blessing and an honor to wear Solo's number," Franklin said. "I am going to do everything I can to honor him. It means coming out every day with a smile on my face, ready to practice, ready to play and bringing teammates along with me."
After consulting with the Jackson family, a different Buffalo player is bestowed the honor of wearing No. 41 for the entire season. Cornerback Boise Ross wore 41 during the 2016 campaign.
"After discussions with Mr. Jackson, we felt Jarrett was most deserving of this honor," Leipold said. "He shares the same qualities that Solomon brought to our program and his life.
Franklin, who previously wore No. 36, is entering his final season with the Bulls. He is coming off the best season of his career, finishing third on the team in tackles with 75 in 2016. The St. Charles, MO native is pursuing a degree in electrical engineering.
Solomon Jackson passed away unexpectedly following an offseason workout on February 29, 2016. Jackson, respected and beloved by his teammates, played both linebacker and defensive end over his career. The slogan ALL41 is a prominent fixture throughout the Murchie Family Football Center to honor his legacy.
