BUFFALO, NY - Men's basketball junior Will Regan has been named to the Mid-American Conference Academic All-MAC Team on Wednesday afternoon, the conference office announced. The team was voted on by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions. A total of five student-athletes were named to the team. Regan was the only player from the MAC East included on this year's team.
Regan was the lone returning member of the team as he was also an All-Academic selection in 2013. Regan, who is an accounting major with a 3.646 GPA, finished the 2013-14 season third on the team in scoring at 10.6 points per game and he was second on the squad with 5.8 rebounds per contest. Regan finished in double figures in 16 games, including a season-high 25 points in a win over Kent State, where he had his first career double-double. Regan finished the year strong with 16 points in UB"s final game of the season.
Joining Regan on the Academic All-MAC Team are Chris Fowler and John Simmons from Central Michigan, Daylen Harrison from Eastern Michigan and Connar Tava from Western Michigan.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. The number of honorees on the MAC All-Academic Team are the number that is set for the specific sport or 33% of the number of nominees, whichever is greater.
