Javon McCrea to Play for Dallas Mavericks Summer League Team

BUFFALO, NY – Former University at Buffalo men's basketball standout Javon McCrea has officially signed on to play for the Dallas Mavericks Summer League Team, as announced by the team on Friday.

McCrea will become just the third UB player to suit up for an NBA team in the Bulls' modern Division I era (since 1991). The others were Mark Bortz, Los Angeles Clippers, and Mitchell Watt, Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Lakers.

McCrea was named the 2014 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year and was a three-time All-MAC First Team selection.  He averaged 18.5 points and 9.9 rebounds per game this past season. He was named the MAC East Player of the Week three times this past year and he went over the 30-point mark three times, including a career-high 34 points in a senior day victory over Bowling Green.

The Newark, NY native became UB's all-time leading scorer during his senior campaign and he finished his career with 2,004 points.  McCrea also finished with 988 rebounds – third in school history.

The Mavericks squad will compete in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas at the COX Pavilion and Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas from July 11-21.

Dallas will begin play on Friday, July 11 at 4 pm (ET) against the New York Knicks. The Mavericks will also play Minnesota (July 12) and Toronto (July 14) before the playoff rounds begin on Wednesday, July 16. All games will air on NBA TV.

McCrea is looking to become the first UB player since Sam Pellom to play a regular season game in the NBA. Pellom spent four seasons in the league between 1979-83, averaging 4.4 points and 3.5 rebounds over 196 games with the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks.
