BUFFALO, NY – Following the most successful season in UB Basketball history, the men's and women's teams will be honored in a postseason celebration on Monday at 3:00 pm at Alumni Arena. The event will be emceed by Paul Peck and will include members of the University and the Athletics community. The general public is invited to attend this free event.
Winners of the Mid-American Conference Championship, the men's basketball team made their first ever NCAA Tournament, facing nationally-ranked West Virginia on Friday afternoon. After tying it up late, UB ultimately fell to the Mountaineers, 68-62, snapping an eight-game winning streak that spanned over a month.
The Bulls concluded the year with a 23-10 record, tying the school record for wins in a season, while for the second straight season, finishing with the MAC Player of the Year. Over the last week, the UB men's basketball team became a national storyline under the direction of second-year head coach Bobby Hurley, including being picked in the bracket of the President of the United States.
The UB women's team took part in the WNIT, just the second ever postseason appearance for the Bulls, who made the MAC Tournament semifinals for just the second time in school history as well. The Bulls finished the year with a 19-13 record, reaching 19 victories for the first time since the 2000-2001 season. Third-year head coach Felisha Legette-Jack led the Bulls to back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1999-2000 and 2000-2001.
The Bulls had several individual accomplishments this year, including both Kristen Sharkey and Mackenzie Loesing going over 1,000 points in their careers.
As always, fans are encouraged to wear Blue and White and to come on out and show your support for these outstanding student-athletes and all they have meant to the Western New York Community throughout the entire season!
