BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo men's basketball standout Blake Hamilton has signed his first professional contract, as he will play for BK Ventspils in Latvia this upcoming season. The club competes in the Latvian Basketball League, the Baltic Basketball League, and the Champions League.
Hamilton was named second-team All-MAC as he led the Bulls in scoring this past season at 17.5 points per game and had a team-high 141 assists. Hamilton was twice named the MAC East Player of the Week and three times he surpassed the 30-point mark, the most by a UB player since Javon McCrea in 2013-14. He had a career-high 36 points against Alaska-Anchorage earlier this year and then he followed that up with 33 points at Akron and 32 points on Senior Day against Bowling Green.
Hamilton scored 20 or more points in four of the final five games of the regular season and in all scored 20 or more points 13 times this past year. He had a career-best 11 assists against Nazareth and he twice flirted with triple doubles in home wins over Western Michigan and Central Michigan.
In the MAC Quarterfinal game against Kent State, Hamilton became the 19th player in school history to surpass the 1,000-point mark for his career, doing so in just two seasons as a Bull. In his two years with UB, Hamilton finished with 1,004 points, 122 three-pointers, 438 rebounds and 226 assists.
Ventspils won the Latvian Basketball League nine times, most recently in 2014, while winning the Baltic League in 2013.
