BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo senior guard CJ Massinburg has been named the MAC East Player of the Week, the Mid-American Conference announced on Monday. This is the second honor for Massinburg and the second straight week a Buffalo player has been honored.
Masinburg led the Bulls to a split this week, playing arguably the toughest two-game road trip by a MAC squad this year at perennial powers Syracuse and Marquette. Buffalo began the weekend with a 71-59 win over Syracuse in the Carrier Dome on Tuesday night as Massinburg had 25 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. He went 8-of-16 from the floor in the win. Massinburg added 18 points and four rebounds at Marquette on Friday night, while also recording four steals defensively. Massinburg is averaging 17.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
Massinburg has had some of his best games against some of the top competition this season. He opened the year with 43 points at then 13th ranked West Virginia, earning his first player of the week honor. Fellow senior Nick Perkins has earned the honor twice.
The Bulls, who moved to #21 in the latest AP Poll after suffering their first loss of the season, will close out non-conference play on Saturday evening at Canisius. Tip off is at 7pm.
