Cicerone Earns National Recognition for FC Buffalo

BUFFALO, NY - Freshman Russell Cicerone of the UB men's soccer team was named the National Premier Soccer League's National Player of the Week for the period ending May 18. Currently a starter for FC Buffalo, Cicerone earned his club the first weekly honor in its all-time history in the national league.

The 2013 Mid-American Conference Newcomer of the Year scored two goals and drew a free kick that led to a third goal, scored by UB teammate Marcus Hanson, in FCB's first win at Erie in five years with a 4-2 decision. He also landed an assist off a corner in a 1-1 draw with AFC Cleveland.

Along with Cicerone and Hanson, the UB men's team also is represented on FC Buffalo by goalie Waleed Cassis and Kristian Lee-Him. Soccer alum and former assistant coach Brian Knapp is also a member of the team.

The Blitzers still have 11 games remaining in the regular season, playing their home matches at Demske Sports Complex on the campus of Canisius College. The team begins a three-game home stand on June 1, hosting Erie for a 5 pm kickoff.
