BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo men's tennis junior Hao Sheng Koay has been named the Mid-American Conference Singles Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday. He becomes the second UB player to earn the honor this year, joining teammate Vilhelm Fridell.
Koay came away with a straight-sets win at third singles over Gabriel Nemeth of No. 39 Penn State last Saturday as he scored the lone victory for the Bulls. Koay won his opening set 6-4 at third singles and followed that up with a 6-2 in the second set to claim the victory.
Koay is 4-2 at third singles this season and 9-8 overall on the year. He also played second doubles with senior Ethan Nittolo on Saturday against the Nittany Lions and they were locked in a tight 5-5 match when play was stopped.
Last season, Koay earned All-MAC and Academic All-MAC honors for UB.
The Bulls will continue their season with a pair of matches in Cleveland this weekend beginning with Cleveland State on Friday at 3:00 pm and then UB will meet Xavier on Saturday at 10:00 am in a neutral site contest.
