BUFFALO, NY - Senior Holly Luciano was named third-team NFCA Mideast All-Region on Thursday afternoon, the first UB player named to that list since 2008. Luciano was one of three UB players that was named first-team All-MAC this year as she led the Bulls to a 30-22 record and a MAC East Division Title.
Luciano led the Bulls offensively with a .340 batting average, an increase of over 150 points in her average from her junior season. Luciano was second on the team in runs batted in with 34 as she hit eight doubles, four triples and four home runs. She led the Bulls with 53 hits and was second on the team with 33 runs scored.
Luciano finished her career with a school-record 95 runs scored as she played in 185 games over the last four years, starting 171 of those in the outfield. She becomes just the fifth UB player in school history to be named to the NFCA All-Region team and the first since Mary Russell in 2008.
The all-region teams were voted on by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2014 NFCA Division I All-American teams, which will be announced on Wednesday, May 28.
