Softball Adds A Pair For Upcoming Season

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo head softball coach Trena Peel has announced the addition of transfer Alyssa Cuevas and freshman Karlie Fernandez for the upcoming 2016-17 season.  Both are natives of California.

Cuevas, who will be a sophomore this upcoming season, comes to the Bulls after playing her freshman season at St. Peters University.  She played in 40 games for the Peacocks where she hit .220 with four doubles and one home run, which she hit on April 24 against Niagara.  She was a four-year letterwinner at Bishop Alemany in Sylmar, CA where she helped her team to three Mission League titles and she was a first-team All-Mission League selection in 2015.  Cuevas hit .391 during her senior year.

Fernandez attended both Norco High School and Santiago High School during her prep career in California, earning three letters and helping her Norco team to the 2015 CIF Division I Championship.  That team went 27-8 during the year and ranked third in state.

She played her travel softball for 12 years for the American Pastime softball club under head coach Greg Perez.

"Alyssa and Karlie will bring depth to our infield and our lineup," said Peel.  "They both have home run power and will be offensive threats.  Alyssa is a high energy player with a passion for the game.  I believe both players are going to make an instant impact and help us compete at the highest level nationally."
