BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo softball team dropped its series opener 2-0 against Ohio at Dobson Field on Friday afternoon.
The Bulls threatened early as Alicia Peters smacked a ball to left that hopped over the wall for a ground rule double but that would prove to be an unlucky bounce as Gabby Keller struck out to end the inning and strand two runners.
Ohio had a runner on in the top of the third but the Bulls flashed some leather as a line drive bounced off Peters, was caught by Alissa Karjel who threw to first for a wild inning ending double play.
The Bulls defense was on display again in the top of the fourth as Karjel, Martinez and Catrell Robertson converted a 6-4-3 double play to end the half inning but the Bobcats broke through in the top of the fifth adding two runs on a triple, an RBI double and an RBI single to take a 2-0 lead.
Ally Power came up with a big strikeout to end the top of the seventh and give UB one last chance but the Bulls went down in order in the bottom of the inning to end the game.
Power gave up just two runs on seven hits, while striking out six batters and allowing just one walk in her tenth complete game of the season.
The Bulls conclude the regular season with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 pm. A Senior Day ceremony for the five UB seniors will follow the doubleheader.
