BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo's swimming and diving team hits the water again on Friday, October 28th. The Bulls will be traveling to Pittsburgh, PA for a 5:00 pm meet. Last Saturday, the Bulls were visited by the Cornell Bears in a non-scoring match. The Bulls performance proved that this will be an exciting season.
The Bulls dominated in the swimming pool and the diving well last Saturday. The Bulls placed first in 23 out of 28 different swimming events. The women swam away with first and second place in the 200 Medley Relay, and first in the 200 Free Relay. The men took first in the 200 Medley Relay, and second in the 200 Free Relay.
Individually, the Bulls dominated as well. Charles Barry and Megan Burns placed first in two different events each. Barry took first in the 400 IM and 500 Free with times of 4:00.09 and 4:37.39, respectively. Burns took first in the 50 and 100 Free. Her time of 22.89 in the 50 Free was just 0.7 seconds slower than her school record achieved last year at the MAC Championship. The freshmen swimmers had an impressive first meet, placing first in three different events. Anna Vitolins and Grace Baumer took away first in the 100 Breast and the 200 Breast, respectively. Joseph Puglessi also took away first in the 200 Breast for the men.
The diving team controlled the diving well, placing first through third on both boards for men and women. Abbey Croce, Valerie Lortie, and Mackenzie Moss were top finishers on the one-meter dive with scores of 277.58, 260.55, and 255.75, respectively. The three-meter dive top finishers were Moss, Lortie, and Olivia Gosselin with scores of 290.78, 275.10, and 250.13, respectively. The men's top finishers on the one- and three-meter dives were Nick Rodriguez (first), Kristian Santos (second), and Troy Birdsall (third).
The meet is set to begin Friday at 5:00 pm in Pittsburgh.
