BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo sophomore swimmer Brittney Beetcher collected her first-career MAC Swimmer of the Week honors on Wednesday morning, the league announced, after a dominant performance in Florida over the weekend that saw her claim an individual victory in two different events in the pool Saturday during Buffalo's dual meets against FGCU and Liberty in Fort Myers, Fla.
Beetcher continued her dominance in the pool in long distance events she started the 2018-19 campaign with on Saturday at the FGCU Duals, hosted by Florida Golf Coast University, collecting two individual victories on the day in the 1000-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle events in the first meet of the New Year.
Beetcher clocked in an impressive time of 10:16.03 in the 1000-yard freestyle event, claiming first place and finishing an entire 13 seconds ahead of the second placed swimmer. The time also clocked in as the ninth fastest in program history. She collected the win in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:01.20, just under four seconds ahead of the second placed simmer, Emily Manly, from Liberty.
Looking ahead, Beetcher will head to Pittsburgh, Pa., with her teammates as they square off against Duquesne in a dual meet on Friday, January 11th. The meet gets underway at 4:00 p.m. The UB diving team will stay home at Alumni Arena to host UB Diving Invite, held annually at the Alumni Arena Natatorium, next Friday, January 11th through the 13th.
