BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo, State University of New York men's track & field team will send a pair to the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships Friday and Saturday, March 13-14 at Arkansas. The NCAA Division I Track & Field and Cross Country Committee made the announcement Wednesday evening.
Junior Mike Morgan's heptathlon performance of 5,797 points ranks third on the list of 16 accepted entries and senior Jonathan Jones' school-record and MAC Championship record throw of 20.06 meters sits fifth out of 16.
Heptathlon competition will begin Friday at 10 am with the 60-meter dash, followed by the long jump, shot put and high jump. The multi will conclude on Saturday with the 60 hurdles taking place at 10:45 am followed by the pole vault and the 1,000 run. The shot put will be held on Saturday at 6:30 pm. Making his third straight indoor appearance, Jones is a four-time All-American in the shot. He placed 13th and 12th, respectively, the last two indoor championships, while finishing fourth and 11th outdoor in 2013 and 2014. He had an 18.71-meter heave last year at the championships to earn second-team praise.
Returning to his second straight indoor championships, Morgan looks to add to his seventh-place finish of 5,766 points that earned him First-Team All-America honors in 2014. He holds the school record in the event with a 5,772-point showing set at the Cornell Upstate Challenge on Jan. 24.
