Three Bulls Compete on Second Day of NCAA East Preliminaries

Selina Von Jackowski

TAMPA, FL – Action continued on Friday at the NCAA East Preliminaries in Tampa, FL and the University at Buffalo had three student-athletes competing. Sam Wray, Selina Von Jackowski and Miranda Daucher were all in action.

Wray kicked off the day in the men's discus.  He competed in the first flight and placed 10th of the 16 throwers and placed 40th overall with a throw of 154'10".  While he was shy of his season-best mark of 174'8", most of the competitors threw well below their season best marks as well.  The three-throw qualifying format was different than most meets, so is served as a good learning experience for Wray who still has two more years.

Von Jackowski competed in the 100m hurdles and was looking to build on her personal-best mark at the MAC Championships.  Unfortunately, she did not quite hit her stride and was disappointed with her 13.74 time and 45th place finish.  However, Von Jackowski is already refocusing for next year and certainly will be a strong contender.

Closing the day was Daucher in the women's discus. A weather delay right before she was going to throw forced Daucher to sit and wait. Once competition resumed, she closed out her amazing career as a Bull with her best placing ever at the NCAA East Preliminaries placing 20th of the 48 competitors.  A senior, she finished her career as the second-best discus thrower ever at the University at Buffalo as well as a top-5 all-time performer in the Indoor 20 lb. weight throw.

Competition concludes on Saturday. Devon Patterson will compete in the shot put scheduled to begin at 5:30pm - pending any weather delays.
