Amy Villarini, Mitchell Moore and Christopher Nowak all posted wins at the Akron Zips Invitational on Friday night. Villarini won the women’s 400m with a time of 56.65. Moore won the men’s 400m with a time of 48.02. Finally, Chris Nowak won the men’s 800m with a season-best time of 1:53.24.
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men’s and women’s cross country teams have been honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their academic success this past season. As announced on Monday, both teams earned All-Academic honors as the women’s team posted a team grade point average of 3.41 while the men’s squad had a team grade point average of 3.27.
The University at Buffalo track and field team competed at the Kent State National Qualifier on Saturday and posted a number of impressive numbers. Between the men and women, the Bulls posted 21 top-five finishes.
The University at Buffalo indoor track and field team competed at the Akron Invite over the weekend. Jess Dhalilwall continued her strong indoor season by winning the weight throw with a toss of 63-06.75. Sam Wray won the men’s weight throw with a toss of 58-02.00.
Selina Von Jackowski tied a personal best jump of 19'11'' to win the long jump by a mere centimeter at the Penn State National Invitational that concluded on Saturday. Von Jackowksi also took home a fifth place finish in the 60m hurdles (8.55).
The University at Buffalo men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed at the Upstate Challenge hosted by Cornell University over the weekend. The women finished in second place and the men took third.
Ray Anikwue and Stephanie Ward both won events as the University at Buffalo indoor track and field team opened the season at the Great Dane Classic in Staten Island, NY on Saturday. Anikwue won the men’s 60m dash with a time of 7:05 and Ward won the women’s 3,000m with a time of 9:50.66.
University at Buffalo Track and Field director and head coach Vicki Mitchell has announced that Lily Meek has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend UB and compete for the Bulls beginning in the fall of 2018.
In recognition of a leadership gift made by the Murchie family to the recently announced fieldhouse, the UB Council endorsed a resolution, on Monday, to name the new fieldhouse at the University at Buffalo, the Murchie Family Fieldhouse in honor of former UB hockey player Tunney Murchie and his family. The naming is subject to the approval of the SUNY Chancellor and the SUNY Board of Trustees.
University at Buffalo track and field athlete Devon Patterson has been selected by the Mid-American Conference to represent the league at the annual NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum, which will take place from November 16-19 in Washington D.C.
The University at Buffalo hosted the second annual Garnham Throws Challenge on Sunday afternoon. The event gives recognition to UB throw coach Jim Garnham, who is one of the most decorated throwing coaches in the NCAA.
The longtime dream of an on-campus fieldhouse at the University at Buffalo will soon be a reality. University at Buffalo Director of Athletics Allen Greene announced on Friday that the university has secured the services of Rochester-based LeChase Construction as the general contractor and New York-based architecture firm CHA for the project.
University at Buffalo track and field head coach Vicki Mitchell has announced the hiring of Kelly Truppo as a part-time assistant coach. A 2015 University at Buffalo graduate and stand-out pole vaulter, Truppo will serve as assistant coach for pole vault.
University at Buffalo track and field head coach Vicki Mitchell has announced the promotion of Tomarris Bell to full-time assistant coach. Bell, who previously served as a part-time assistant since 2014, will now oversee UB’s combined events, horizontal jumps and vertical jumps.
The University at Buffalo women’s track and field team has been honored as an All-Academic Team by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Bulls posted a team grade point average of 3.053.
Selina Von Jackowski of the University at Buffalo women's track and field team competed at the Swiss National Championships this past weekend with excellent results. In the 100 high hurdles, three rounds were contested. A native of Pfeffingen, Switzerland, Von Jackowski advanced to the finals running 14.08 in the prelims, 13.67 in the semifinals and 13.73 in the finals of the Women’s 100 high hurdles, placing second overall. She also competed in the long jump and had a best of 6.14m (20’1.75”).
University at Buffalo freshman track and field athlete Sylvia Russell finished in fourth place in the 3k Steeple Chase at the U-20 Canadian Track and Field Championships on Friday. Russell clocked in at 10:55.66 and will move on to the Canadian Games later this summer.
CLEVELAND, OH - The Mid-American Conference announced today the Distinguished Scholar Athletes from the eight spring sports during the 2016-2017 academic season. Among the list of 186 athletes, were eight University at Buffalo student-athletes. This list was voted on by the faculty athletic representatives, and represents the "best of the best" from each sports' Academic All-MAC teams.
Three members of the University at Buffalo track and field team competed at the USATF 2017 Junior Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, CA over the weekend. Caleb Covell, Samuel Wray and Matthew Mercer all competed against the best junior competition in the nation.
The University at Buffalo will host a Cross Country/Track & Field Camp July 10 – 13. The camp allows students to select their event to focus on for the four days. Event specialties include sprints, hurdles, horizontal jumps, high jump, pole vault, throws, cross country and middle distance.
CLEVELAND, OH – The Mid-American Conference announced the Academic All-MAC Teams for the men’s and women’s outdoor track and field season on Wednesday morning. The men had 10 student-athletes recognized, while the women had 16 student-athletes receive the honor.
LEXINGTON, KY – The 2017 season came to an end today for the University at Buffalo track and field team at the NCAA East Preliminaries. The team completed the season with strong performance from all athletes that competed at the competition, topping off the season with a record-breaking performance in the men’s 4X400 relay.
LEXINGTON, KY – The University at Buffalo track and field program completed day two of the NCAA East Preliminaries hosted by the University of Kentucky at Lexington, KY. The Bulls left the day with three new school records and three Top-20 finishes.
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo track and field program qualified for NCAA East Preliminaries in 13 individual events and one relay event. The competition is set to begin on Thursday, May 25 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY.
KALAMAZOO, MI – The University at Buffalo track and field team had an outstanding appearance at the 2017 Outdoor Mid-American Conference Championships. Several Bulls found their way to the podium, and the men finished third overall, while the women finished ninth overall.
