BUFFALO, NY – For the first time in her UB career, senior center Cassie Oursler was named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulls have earned the weekly recognition four times this season as junior Cierra Dillard was MAC East Player of the Week three times earlier this season.
Oursler has taken her play to another level over the past couple weeks and it resulted in a huge week that saw her average 17.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks while leading the Bulls to a pair of conference victories including a win over Central Michigan, who was previously undefeated in MAC play. Oursler also shot 61.5% from the floor over the two-game span.
The Grand Island, NY native was a monster for the Bulls on Wednesday in UB's 85-82 victory over Central Michigan as she notched her third straight double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds while going 11-for-18 from the floor. Oursler was able to play 37 minutes while grabbing seven offensive rebounds in the Bulls biggest win of the season.
She backed up her big game against the Chippewas by posting 10 points, eight rebounds and three blocks in the Bulls win over Akron on Saturday. Oursler was only asked to play 21 minutes in the blowout victory over the Zips as she went 5-for-8 from the floor.
Oursler is having the best season of her career as she has scored in double figures a career-best 20 times this season. The senior is averaging 26.3 minutes, 13.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.9 blocks while shooting 48.7% from the floor and 79.7% from the charity stripe. She has posted a career-high seven double-doubles and seven games with 10+ rebounds this season.
The Bulls will return to the court on Wednesday night as they look to clinch their first ever MAC East Division regular season title as they head to Bowling Green. Tip on Wednesday at the Stroh Center is set for 7:00 pm.
