Katherine Ups Named CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team

For the first time in her UB career, senior guard Katherine Ups was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team, as announced on Thursday afternoon. Ups becomes just the fifth Bulls player in program history to earn First Team Academic All-District honors and the first since Mari McClure in 2000-01.

Ups, a biomedical sciences major with a 3.92 GPA, is joined on the first team by seven other student-athletes from schools such as Wagner, Quinnipiac, St. Bonaventure, UConn, Brown, Albany and Columbia. Ups has earned Academic All-MAC honors each of the last two seasons and figures to do so once again this season.

On the court, the senior has turned into one of the key players for the first time MAC East division regular season Bulls. Ups has started all 26 games for the Bulls this season while averaging 7.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists. The senior is also relied on heavily on the defensive end of the court where she has been tasked with guarding the opposing teams' best player and she has performed at a high level all season long while recording 24 steals on the year.

Ups is a part of the winningest senior class for UB since joining the MAC in 1998-99 as she has helped the Bulls secure 83 victories so far. She has appeared in 110 career games while earning 80 starts for the Bulls while helping to guide UB to their first ever Mid-American Conference Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament appearance during the 2015-16 campaign.

Ups and the Bulls will return to the Alumni Arena court on Saturday at 1:00 pm as they welcome the Ohio Bobcats for a MAC east showdown. With three games remaining in the regular season, the Bulls have secured a top-two seed in the MAC Tournament, highest seed in program history.
