2011 Wrestling Championship Brackets

DEKALB, IL - Fans interested in following the Bulls in the team's quest for a Mid American Conference championship can find all the information online through MAC-Sports.com. The site will offer live stats and a video stream of the two-day tournament.

The conference released the brackets last night, with the Bulls grabbing two number one seeds and two others with the two seed. Desi Green and Mark Lewandowski were given the top ranking at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively, following 5-0 MAC seasons for each. Green will face Vince Castillo of Northern Illinois in the first round and the winner will take on Marcel Clopton in the quarterfinals after Clopton received a bye. Lewandowski received a bye and will face the winner of the Aaron Sulzer (EMU) vs. Ryan Cubberly (CMU).

Kevin Smith (133 pounds) and Andrew Schutt (141) will be the two-seeds. Smith will face Jacob Wojcik of Ohio in the first round and the winner will take on Tyler Small of Kent State. Despite missing all but one MAC dual thanks to an injury, Schutt will have a first-round bye and face the winner of Northern Illinois' Tristen DeShazer and Kent State's Chase Skonieczny.

In other matches, Sean Walton will look to be the darkhorse in the 125-pound bracket, facing Nic Bedelyon of Kent State in the first round after losing to him 8-3 in the regular season. John-Martin Cannon drew a first-round bye as the third seed in the 165-pound bracket. He will face the winner of the Ross Tice (CMU) vs. Steve Wilson (Ohio) bout. Mike Miller of Central Michigan earned the number one seed in the weight class.

Ron Majerus will face Chris Eggert of Eastern Michigan in the first round of the 174-pound tournament, with the winner facing Ohio's number-one seed Nick Purdue. Senior Jimmy Hamel will face Central Michigan's Craig Kelliher, who he beat 5-3 in the two team's dual last month. Hamel will also get have a chance to avenge his loss to Northern Illinois' Brad Dieckhaus, as the winner of the first round bout will take on the Huskies' senior, who beat Hamel 3-1.

Brian Sheehan will have a tough road in a weight class that he has only wrestled once in, at 197 pounds. Ohio's Erik Schuth - the number two seed - will be his opponent in the first round. Heavyweight Brett Correll will also have a tough draw in arguably the conference's deepest weight division. He will face Ohio's number three seed Jeremy Johnson in the first round with the winner facing Kent State's Brendan Barlow. Despite finishing 0-5 in conference play, Correll only lost by an average of just over two points per match. With a strong performance, the sophomore could snag one of the conference's four NCAA automatic qualifiying slots.
