BUFFALO, NY - The brackets for the 2014 NCAA Wrestling Championships were released on Wednesday night. Nick Flannery was the lone Bull to qualify, earning a bid at 141-pounds.
The national tournament will be held in Oklahoma City, OK at the Chesapeake Energy Arena, starting on Thursday, March 20 and running through Saturday, March 22.
Flannery will be matched up against Devin Carter of Virginia Tech, the ACC champion at 141-pounds. Carter finished the season with an overall record of 14-0 on the season while Flannery finished the season with a record of 22-16 and a fifth place finish at the Mid-American Conference Championships last weekend.
Flannery finished the season off strong for the Bulls as he won his final four matches of the regular season. Heading to the MAC Championships as the seven seed and not expected to advance to the NCAA tournament, Flannery was impressive on day two of the championship, winning in the final 10 seconds of the fifth place match against Michael Shaw of Eastern Michigan.
The tournament is a double elimination tournament with the losers going to the wrestlebacks bracket, to fight for third, fourth and fifth places. Loser of the Flannery vs. Carter match will face the loser of Stephen Dutton III of Michigan and Josh Dziewa of Iowa.
