BUFFALO, NY – WIN Magazine released its preseason wrestling rankings on Thursday and three University at Buffalo grapplers were among those ranked. Bryan Lantry is ranked fifth at 133 lbs., Kyle Akins is ranked 10th at 125 and Jake Gunning is ranked 20th at 285 lbs.
Lantry is coming off his best season as a Bull. He went 22-6 overall and 13-2 in duals in 2016-17. He finished second at the Mid-American Conference championships and finished just shy of the podium at the NCAA Championships.
Akins went 22-7 last season, including a perfect 8-0 in duals at 125 lbs. The junior finished fourth at the MAC Championships to advance to the NCAA Championships. Akins went 2-2 at the NCAAs.
Gunning is the reigning MAC champion at 285 lbs. after taking home the title last season. He went 20-7 overall and 14-3 in dual matches last year and advanced to the NCAA Championships.
In addition, WIN Magazine released its preseason team rankings and Buffalo was ranked in a tie for 22nd. Missouri (4th) and Central Michigan (18th) were the only two MAC schools ranked higher than the Bulls.
