2017-18: Led the Bulls in overall wins with 22… finished the season 22-10 overall and 10-4 in duals… was 5-1 in MAC duals… named Academic All-MAC as well as to the NWCA Division I All-Academic Team… placed fifth at the MAC Championships… had 10 takedowns and eight escapes on the season… led the Bulls in falls (2), reversals (5) and riding-time points (5)... went 4-0 to win his weight class at the Mat-Town Open… went 3-2 at Midlands.
2016-17: After an injury sidelined him for the first month of the season, he went on to have a fine campaign, going 22-7 overall and a perfect 8-0 in duals… went 3-0 in MAC duals… posted two wins over ranked wrestlers during the regular season… went 2-1 at the MAC Championships to qualify for the NCAAs for the first time in his career… went 2-2 at the NCAA Championships… led the team in 4-point near falls (6), reversals (5) and tech falls (3)… had 26 takedowns and six escapes on the season… named to the Academic All-MAC and National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic Teams.
2015-16: Had a solid first campaign with the Bulls at 125 lbs. … went 19-13 overall and 11-7 in dual meets… his 11 dual wins tied for second on the team… was 2-6 in MAC duals… tied for the team lead with four falls… also tied for team lead in two-point near falls… ranked third on the team with 28 takedowns... had 20 escapes and five riding time points on the season…. qualified for the UWW Junior Freestyle World Team Trials.
2014-15: Redshirted as a freshman.
High School: Was a four year member and two year team captain of the wrestling team at Sycamore High School. As a senior, he compiled a record of 45-1 en route to a second place finish at the Illinois State Tournament, following a junior season in which he collected the state title. He finished his career as a four time state placer and four time conference champion. Was also named All-American on three occasions. He finished in 3rd place at the USA Junior Freestyle Nationals as a junior. Akins is ranked as a top 100 recruit by Flowrestling while also ranking as high as 9th at the 120 pound weight class by Intermat.
