BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo rowing program kept up its dominating performance at the Harvey Cup, sweeping Eastern Michigan on Saturday morning on Tonawanda Creek. The Bulls were victorious in all five races, including the Varsity 8 affair, which is the Harvey Cup race, named for former UB Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator Nan Harvey who passed away in September 2003.
The Varsity 8 race saw the Bulls finish in a time of 6:46.09, more than 11 seconds faster than EMU. The morning began with the Varsity 4 race as the Bulls crushed the Eagles, 7:34.52 to 9:00.56. In the Second Varsity 8 race, the Bulls finished with a time of 7:09.48, surpassing Eastern Michigan's time of 7:27.69.
The event continued with the Second Varsity 4 contest, which featured a pair of University at Buffalo shells. The 2V4 boat finished in a time of 7:52.68, while the Novice 4 boat finished at 8:17.97. The morning concluded with the Novice 8 race as the Bulls won by nearly a minute, 7:13.51 to 8:10.10.
"We had some great performances through out the day and it was a great home race," said head coach Sandy Calfo. "We saw a lot of positives out there on the water and this is definitely something we can build on as we prepare for the Eastern Sprints."
The Bulls are back in action the first weekend of May at the Eastern Sprints in Camden, NJ.
