Bulls Return To UB Stadium For Final Regular Season Home Matches This Weekend

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (6-7-2, 4-3-1 MAC) will return home for their final two regular season home matches this weekend as they welcome a pair of MAC foes. On Thursday night, the Bulls will welcome Ball State to UB Stadium at 7:00 pm before closing out their home slate on Sunday at 12:00 pm as Miami (OH) comes to town on Senior Day for three UB student-athletes.

The Bulls are coming off of a 1-1-0 weekend which could have easily been a 2-0-0 weekend but they were unable to hold onto the 2-0 lead at Bowling Green on Friday night. After a pair of goals by Gianna Yurchak and Julia Benati, the Falcons stormed back with three second half goals to earn the 3-2 victory. Buffalo had a strong showing on Sunday as they were able to regroup from Friday nights result and earn a gritty 1-0 road victory at Toledo behind a Carissima Cutrona second half goal.

Buffalo is being led offensively by Cutrona who has notched a team-high six goals, four assists and 16 points on 57 shots while also cashing in on a team-best three game-winning goals this season. Senior Julia Benati has picked up her play as of late as she now has five goals and three assists for 13 points while sophomore Kara Daly has been impressive as she now has two goals and a team-high four assists for eight points on the year. Defensively, Gurjeena Jandu and Adrianna VanCuyck continue to lead the Buffalo backline while Marcy Barberic has been a steadying force in the holding midfield position as she has chipped in with a goal and two assists. In goal, Laura Dougall has been strong as she owns a 1.16 goals-against average and a .822 save percentage to go along with five clean sheets.

The Ball State Cardinals enter Thursday night's match at UB Stadium with an 8-6-2 overall record to go along with a 6-1-1 MAC mark. The Cardinals have won two straight MAC matches after falling in overtime to Northern Illinois, 3-2. Ball State is being led offensively by Julia Elvbo who has notched four goals and an assist for nine points while notching 20 shots and three game-winning markers. Sam Kambol has been soldid for the Cardinals as she has netted four goals, three game-winners, and a team-high 25 shots. Allison Abbe leads all Ball State players with five assists on the season while starting 15 of 16 matches. In goal, the Cardinals have used two different keepers as Alyssa Heintschel has started nine matches and owns a 5-3-0 record to go along with a 0.75 goals-against average and two clean sheets while Tristin Stuteville has started seven matches and owns a 3-3-2 record to go along with a 1.18 goals-against average and two clean sheets.

Thursday's meeting will mark the 20th between the two programs with the Ball State Cardinals owning the slim 9-8-2 all-time record against the Bulls. The Cardinals have won two straight in the series, a pair of 1-0 victories.

Miami (OH) enters this weekend with a 2-12-1 overall record to go along with a 2-5-1 MAC mark after picking up two conference victories this weekend against Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan. The RedHawks are being led offensively by Olivia Winnett who has notched two goals and an assist while Katie Alexander has notched two goals and 19 shots on the year. Lydia Brosnahan has started 13 matches with two goals while Soph Spinell leads the team with three assists on the year. In goal, Patricia Koutoulas owns a 1.68 goals-against average to go along with a .752 save percentage while making 79 saves and one clean sheet on the year.

Sunday's meeting will mark the 22nd meeting of all-time between the two squads with the Miami (OH) RedHawks owning the 15-4-2 record against the Bulls. Buffalo has won two of the last three matches against the RedHawks.

On Sunday, the Bulls will honor three seniors who have been crucial members of the team over their careers. The three seniors being honored prior to the match on Sunday will be Moira Petrie, Julia Benati and Laura Dougall.

After this weekend, the Bulls will have one more regular season match as they head to the Akron Zips on Thursday, October 26 for a 3:00 pm match.
