AKRON, OH – The University at Buffalo women's swimming & diving team had a strong weekend in Akron as they were able to claim second place with a team score of 1534.5, finishing just behind the hosts. UB improved on their third place finish at the event a season ago.
Buffalo was able to claim second place as they topped Bowling Green, Oakland and Toledo by over 300 points.
The Bulls saw two swimmers earn first place finishes on Sunday as senior Hannah Miller collected the victory in the 1650 yard freestyle and Megan Burns claimed the win in the 100 meter freestyle. Miller posted a season-best time of 16:29.66 in the 1650 freestyle as she won the race by over three seconds. Brittney Beetcher was also able to collect a third place finish in the event in 16:46.09 to earn the Bulls 27 points.
In the 100 freestyle, Megan Burns was outstanding for the Bulls as she collected the victory with a season-best time of 48.89 while fellow senior Eve Kosten was able to post a fourth place finish in a season-best 50.00 to earn 26 team points.
The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Megan Burns, Eve Kosten, Andrea Ernst and Catherine Schultheis had a strong race for the Bulls as they took home second place behind the quartet from Akron, finishing in a season-best time of 3:20.54 and ranked as the fourth fastest time in school history.
The Bulls will return to the pool in mid-January as they will take on the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Friday, January 12 and the Niagara Purple Eagles on Saturday, January 13. The Bulls will also be hosting the UB Diving Invite on January 12-13 at the Alumni Arena Natatorium.
