BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's swimming and diving team (6-0, 3-0 MAC) were able to stay perfect on the season with a dominant 198-102 victory over the Miami (OH) RedHawks on Saturday afternoon inside the Alumni Arena Natatorium. The win over the RedHawks marked head coach Andy Bashor's first dual meet victory over Miami (OH) since becoming head coach at Buffalo.
Senior leader Megan Burns was on top of her game on Saturday afternoon as she was able to post three victories in the freestyle races. Burns notched first place finishes in the 50 freestyle in 23.05 seconds, in the 100 freestyle in 50.62 and in the 200 freestyle in 1:50.06.
Freshman Nicole Roitenberg continued to impress the UB coaching staff on Saturday as she was able to claim victories in the 100 and 200 backstroke. Roitenberg claimed first place in the 100 backstroke in 56.33 seconds while winning the 200 backstroke in 2:03.73.
Buffalo was able to claim victories in both distance freestyle events as Hannah Miller continued her domination in the pool. The senior posted a first place finish in the 1000 freestyle in a serason-best time of 10:08.35 while fellow Bull Brittney Beetcher came in second place with a season-best time of 10:10.70. Miller went on to claim victory in the 500 freestyle in 4:58.28 while Beetcher claimed third place in the race.
Sarah Baxter also had a solid day for the Bulls as she was able to win the 100 yard butterfly event in 56.19 seconds while also posting a come-from-behind victory in the 200 yard individual medley as she touched the wall just ahead of her competitor from Miami in 2:06.01.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of Nicole Roitenberg, Grace Baumer, Sarah Baxter and Eve Kosten were able to take home first place in 1:45.13 while finishing a close second was the UB team of Andrea Ernst, Jenna Krull, Olivia Sapio and Kathryn Burns.
In the final race of the day, the 400 yard freestyle relay, Buffalo was able to take home first and second place. Coming in first was the team of Andrea Ernst, Catherine Schultheis, Jenna Krull and Kathryn Burns as they finished in a season-best time of 3:30.16. Coming in second place was the relay team of Jillian Lawton, Eve Kosten, Hannah Miller and Megan Burns.
In the diving well, senior Kelly Moran was able to collect a victory in the three-meter dive while taking home second place in the one-meter dive. In the three-meter dive, Moran posted a score of 294.38 while fellow Bulls' Journi Northorp and Olivia Gosselin were able to take home second and third place. Northorp posted a career-best score of 265.65 to take second while Gosselin finished third with a score of 255.90. Moran went on to take second in the one-meter dive with a score of 262.28 while Gosselin, Isobel Jane Holcomb and Northorp were able to take home third, fourth and fifth for UB.
The Bulls will return to the pool next Saturday as they travel to Muncie, IN to take on MAC foe Ball State. The dual will start at 12:00 pm on Saturday in the Bulls final MAC dual meet.
