BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team opens their spring schedule this weekend with a pair of matches at Miller Tennis Center beginning on Friday afternoon against St. Bonaventure and followed up on Saturday afternoon against Youngstown State. Both matches will begin at 1pm.
The Bulls were picked as the favorites to win the Mid-American Conference in the preseason as they get ready to begin their dual match season. Junior Tanja Stojanovska, a two-time All-MAC First Team selection in both 2015 and 2016, and sophomore Chantal Martinez Blanco, a 2016 All-MAC Second Team selection, will lead the Bulls. Stojanovska, a native of Ohrid, Macedonia, last year was No. 1 at both singles and doubles and posted a singles record of 13-7 overall, including 5-3 in MAC play, while adding a 12-4 doubles overall mark, including 4-2 in the MAC. Martinez Blanco, a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, was 12-8 overall in singles, including 5-3 in MAC play, while adding a 10-7 overall record, 3-3 in the MAC.
St. Bonaventure has already played four matches this season and the Bonnies are 1-3 on the year, picking up a 6-1 victory over St. Peter's in their last match. Youngstown State will come into Saturday's match with a 3-1 record as it opened up the spring with wins over Eastern Michigan, Niagara, and St. Francis (PA).
Both matches will take place at Miller Tennis Center, which is located at 5959 Sheridan Dr, Williamsville, NY 14221.
