WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team had little trouble on Saturday afternoon as the Bulls had a dominating 7-0 win over Mercyhurst at the Miller Tennis Center. The Bulls improved to 5-1 with the win.
In doubles action, freshman Pia Schwarz and senior Arianna Paules Aldrey came away with a quick 6-1 win at second doubles, while UB claimed 6-3 wins at one and three. The victory at first doubles came from senior Chantal Martinez Blanco and freshman Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou, while the third doubles win came from junior Emel Abibula and freshman Hsin-Yuan Shih.
Buffalo won all six singles matches in straight sets, beginning with a 6-2, 6-0 win at two from Antoniou-Karademitrou. Senior Mercedes Losada Rubio then won 6-2, 6-0 at sixth singles, while the Bulls clinched the match at fifth singles on a 6-1, 6-0 victory by senior Sanjana Sudhir.
Martinez Blanco then came away with a 6-1, 6-2 win at first singles, while Abibula won 6-0, 6-3 at third singles. Shih completed the sweep at fourth singles with a 6-3, 7-6 (5) win.
The bulls will return to action tomorrow when they join the UB men's program for a joint dual match with Quinnipiac. That match will take place at 11:00 am at the Miller Tennis Center.
