WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team picked up its sixth victory of the season on Sunday as the Bulls defeated Quinnipiac 6-1 at the Miller Tennis Center. UB won all three matches in doubles and won five of the six matches in singles.
UB's first win at doubles came at second doubles as senior Arianna Paules Aldrey and freshman Pia Schwarz won 6-1. The Bulls then clinched the doubles point at third doubles as junior Emel Abibula and freshman Hsin-Yuan Shih won 6-2. Buffalo swept doubles with a 7-5 win at one from senior Chantal Martinez Blanco and freshman Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou.
Abibula claimed the first singles victory at third singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead. The Bobcats would win at second singles to get on the board, but then Shih won 7-6 (6), 6-2 at fourth singles and Martinez Blanco overcame a first-set loss to clinch the match for the Bulls at first singles with a 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Buffalo closed out the match with wins at fifth and six singles. Senior Mercedes Losada Rubio won first at sixth singles with a 6-3, 6-4 win and fellow senior Sanjana Sudhir closed out the afternoon with a 7-6 (3), 6-4 victory at fifth singles.
"Overall it was a good day at the office for us," said head coach Kristen Maines. "I thought we got better this weekend and that's what you want to see each time you take the court. We still have things to work on, but we look forward to having a good week of practice before facing West Virginia next weekend."
The Bulls will welcome the Mountaineers of the Big 12 to Miller Tennis Center next Saturday at 1:00 pm.
