WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis teams suffered their first Mid-American Conference loss since the 2016-17 season on Sunday as the Bulls fell to Miami 4-3.
UB won the doubles point with victories at one and two. Freshman Pia Schwarz and senior Arianna Paules Aldrey were the first to finish with a 6-2 win at two and Chantal Martinez Blanco and Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou won at one, 6-4. UB led at three when the doubles point was halted.
Miami tied the match up in singles with a victory at one before the Bulls scored wins at five and three to take a 3-1 lead. Junior Emel Abibula won her match at fifth singles, 6-2, 6-4, and Schwarz won at three, 7-6 (4), 6-3.
However, the RedHawks would win the remaining matches, as second, fourth, and sixth singles all went into three sets. UB had a number of match points throughout the afternoon, but couldn't close it out. Miami went on to clinch the match at sixth singles.
The Bulls head to Western Michigan on Friday for a 1pm start.
