BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team saw their season come to an end on Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the MAC Tournament with a 4-0 loss to #2 Akron.  UB concludes the season with a 15-8 record.

The Bulls got out to a quick start to doubles with a 6-0 shutout at three courtesy of junior Emel Abibula and freshman His-Yuan Shih. Akron then came back and won the first two doubles matches, 6-3.

In singles action, the Zips took a 2-0 advantage with a straight sets victory at three, followed by a victory at five.  Akron clinched the match at first singles as the MAC Player of the Year Sophia Geier won 6-4, 6-2.

UB took the opening set at second singles as freshman Pia Schwarz swept her opponent 6-0, playing in a third set when play was stopped.  Shih also fought in her match as she overcame a 6-2 loss in the first set at four, winning her second set 6-4.

"I am extremely proud of the way this group competed today against a very tough Akron team," said head coach Kristen Maines.  "The turnaround that we showed from two weeks has been nothing short of amazing and that is a testament to championship mindset of these players.  We went out with no regrets!"

Today's match was the final one for UB's four seniors Arianna Paules Already, Mercedes Losada Rubio, Sanjana Sudhir, and Chantal Martinez Blanco.

Akron has advanced to the MAC Championship match where it will face top-seeded Miami (OH), who defeated Ball State, 4-0 on Saturday morning.  The two teams will meet at 12pm on Sunday.
