Lipski And Shado Named All-MAC; Bulls Open Tournament Play Tonight

BUFFALO, NY - Senior Megan Lipski and sophomore Cassie Shado have been named All-MAC Honorable Mention, the conference office announced prior to the start of the conference tournament on Thursday.  Lipski and Shado, who were two of 20 players league wide to be honored, join the rest of the Bulls as the seventh seed in the tournament, as UB faces Ball State tonight.

Lipski leads the Bulls in kills and digs this season with 316 kills and 337 digs.  Lipski had 14 double-doubles on the season including the first 20-kill, 20-dig match for the Bulls in nearly two years.  Lipski became just the ninth player in school history to accomplish the feat when she had 20 kills and a career-high 27 digs in a win at Eastern Michigan.  Lipski had a stretch in conference play where she had three straight 20-dig performances, including 26 digs against Western Michigan and 20 digs against MAC Regular Season Champion, Northern Illinois.  She had 20 kills twice this season, Eastern Michigan and home against Bowling Green, both wins for the Bulls.  In all she reached double figures in kills 17 times during the year.

"Lip has showed her senior leadership both on and off the court all season," said head coach Blair Brown Lipsitz.  "She has been our most consistent player and I am happy that the conference has honored her for the year she has had."

Shado leads the Mid-American Conference in blocks this season with 120 total blocks, including 23 solo blocks.  Shado had two double figure performances on the season, including a career-high 13 blocks at Central Michigan, including the match-clinching solo block in the fifth set.  That total came just one day after she recorded 10 blocks in a win at Eastern Michigan.  She had at least seven blocks six different times, including eight blocks against Southern Mississippi and Stony Brook.  Shado led the Bulls in hitting percentage at .299 and finished second on the team with 227 kills, including a 15 kills, zero error performance against Kent State, where she hit .536 and 15 kills in the win over Central Michigan.

"Cassie has been a force at the net for us all year," said Lipsitz.  "She continues to improve each and every day and I think she will continue to only get better as her career progresses."

As a team, the Bulls begin the 2015 Mid-American Conference Tournament this evening when they face Ball State at 7:30 pm.  The Bulls enter the tournament as the #7 seed, their highest finish in school history.  UB is looking to avenge a 3-0 loss at Ball State earlier in the season.  The winner for tonight's match will face Kent State tomorrow night at 7:30 pm.
