Cassie Shado Named Preseason All-MAC; Bulls Picked Fourth

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo senior middle blocker Cassie Shado has been named to the preseason All-MAC East Division team, the conference office announced on Tuesday morning along with the league's preseason poll, which had the Bulls fourth in the East Division.

Shado was named to the All-MAC First Team last season as she led the Bulls and the entire Mid-American Conference in hitting percentage over the 2016 season as she hit .400, becoming only the second player in UB school history to hit at least .400 for a season.  Shado was second on the team with 241 kills and also second on the squad with 90 blocks, averaging 0.90 blocks per set.  Her best match of the season came in a five-set win over Akron when she had 22 kills and just one error on 31 swings.  She was named the MAC East Offensive Player of the Week following that weekend.  She also had a match with 21 kills and just one error in a five set match against Central Michigan.  Overall, she reached double figures in kills nine times.

As she enters her senior season, Shado has a career hitting percentage of .327, which is fourth in school history.  She is also currently sixth in school history in blocks per set at 1.06.

Shado is one of seven players to be named on the East Division side of the preseason All-MAC team, joining two players from Kent State, Ohio, and Miami.

As a team, the Bulls were picked fourth in the East Division behind Miami, Ohio, and Kent State.  Both Bowling Green and Akron were picked to finish behind the Bulls.

Ball State was picked to win the West Division, followed by Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Toledo, Central Michigan, and Eastern Michigan.

The Bulls will open their season on Friday when they host the Buffalo Invite.  UB hosts Hampton at 10am on Friday, followed by Canisius at 6:30pm on Friday.  They wrap up action on Saturday at 12:30pm against Central Arkansas.
