BUFFALO, NY – Following another outstanding weekend, sophomore outside hitter Polina Prokudina has been named the MAC East Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced early Tuesday evening. The honor is the first for Prokudina and the first for a UB player this year.
She was named to the all-tournament team at the Seton Hall Classic as she began the weekend with 18 kills and a career-high 20 digs in a five-set match at Seton Hall. She added four assists and a pair of blocks against the Pirates. In the five set win over Rutgers, UB's first over a Big Ten program, she recorded 26 kills, the second time in five matches this season that she has recorded at least 26 kills. She had just six errors as she hit .426 for the match against the Scarlet Knights. Overall, she averaged 4.40 kills per set and 4.75 points per set for the week.
Through the first five matches of the season, the Syracuse University transfer leads the Bulls and the Mid-American Conference with 4.48 kills per set. She is hitting .264, and is third on the Bulls with 51 digs.
Prokudina and the Bulls will remain on the road this upcoming weekend when they head to the nation's capital for the Georgetown Classic. UB will face Coppin State on Friday at 4:30pm and then will face James Madison and Georgetown on Saturday.
