Shado And Mitrovic Earn All-Conference Honors

Cassie Shado & Andrea Mitrovic - All-MAC

BUFFALO, NY – The Mid-American Conference announced its postseason volleyball awards on Wednesday morning and a pair of Bulls were honored as senior Cassie Shado was named to the All-MAC First Team and freshman Andrea Mitrovic was named to the league's All-Freshman Team.

Shado becomes the first ever two-time All-MAC First team selection for the Bulls as she also earned that honor last year following her junior year.  Shado is second in the league in hitting percentage at .368 and she is third on the team in kills with 179 despite missing the early part of the season due to injury.  In just 67 sets this year, Shado led the Bulls in blocking with 70, averaging 1.04 per set.  She earned MAC East Player of the Week honors after the opening MAC weekend when she had 13 and 15 kills, respectively, hitting just under .500 in each match.  Shado hit over .500 twice this season as she hit .526 in a 3-0 win over Eastern Michigan and .520 this past Friday against Miami.  Shado had a season-high nine blocks on Senior Day against Bowling Green.

Mitrovic had a dominating season as a freshman as she enters the MAC Tournament tied for the team lead with 364 kills and she is second on the team with 290 digs and 29 service aces. Her 3.57 kills per set are currently eighth best in a single season.  Mitrovic reached double figures in kills in all but three matches this season, including a career-high 24 digs in UB's last match against Bowling Green.  Mitrovic also recorded double figures in digs twice this season with 24 against Appalachian State and 20 on Friday night against Miami.

This is the second straight year that the Bulls have placed a member on the All-Freshman team as setter Scout McLerran was named to the team last year.  In all, Mitrovic becomes the seventh player in school history to earn All-Freshman honors.

The Bulls will begin MAC Tournament play tomorrow when #5 Buffalo faces #8 Eastern Michigan at 4:30 pm in Oxford, OH. The winner will face #4 Ohio on Friday.
