BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo, State University of New York cross country program has been selected to host the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Northeast Regional Championships. The event will take place on Nov. 10, 2017 at the Audubon Golf Course.
"I am absolutely thrilled to have received the bid to host the championships," praised UB director and head coach Vicki Mitchell. "It gives our student-athletes the opportunity to compete at the highest level at home with the support of the University, Division of Athletics, family and friends."
An average of 260 runners per race will compete. The Northeast Region has the largest number of schools of all nine regions nationally. The men cover a distance of 10 kilometers, while the women race a distance of six kilometers.
"It is an excellent opportunity to showcase the University at Buffalo and the City of Buffalo," said Mitchell. "There will be over 40 NCAA Division I teams coming to Buffalo for the competition. Add in spectators with family and friends, many of which will be experiencing Buffalo and the Greater Niagara Region for the first time!
"The course at Audubon Golf Course is designed to be an excellent racing experience for the student-athletes and a great spectator course for the families and fans."
The 2017 championships will mark the second time UB hosts the regional meet. The Bulls welcomed the race to Western New York on Nov. 12, 2011 at Amherst's Audubon Golf Course.
