HAMILTON, NY – The University at Buffalo cross country teams started out their 2017 campaigns on a strong note as both the women and the men were able to collect second place finishes at the Harry Lang Invitational hosted by Colgate. The Bulls placed ahead of Colgate in both races and behind Syracuse.
The women executed the race well on Saturday as sophomore Stephanie Ward collected the victory in the three-mile race as she finished in 16:55. Sylvia Russell also put in a strong effort in the first race of the season as she took home third place overall as she finished in 17:15. Christiana Berge was also able to crack the top-10 as she finished in 18:06, taking home a seventh place finish.
On the men's side, Benjamin Cardamone had a great start to his sophomore campaign as he took home fifth place with a time of 20:47, the fastest race in UB program history. Junior Dylan Servos put together a strong race for the Bulls as he took home eighth place in 21:04 while freshman Christopher Nowak raced to a ninth place finish in 21:06.
Four other Bulls finished inside the top-20 on Saturday as Matthew Mercer finished 11th in 21:14, Patrick Hazlitt finished in 12th in 21:15, John McCarthy took home 13th in 21:38 and Tom Meehan placed 16th in 22:27.
The Bulls will return to action on Friday, September 15 as they return home to host the UB Stampede Invite at the Audobon Golf Course. The UB Stampede will start at 11:00 am.
