BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo cross country teams will be back in action on Friday afternoon after a two week hiatus as they get set to host the UB Stampede Invitational. The men's 8K race will kick off the day at 11:00 am followed by the women's 6K race starting at 11:45am at the Audobon Golf Course (500 Maple Rd., Buffalo, NY, 14221).
The men's field will consist of a meet-record 10 teams as Binghamton, Daemen, Colgate, Pittsburgh, McMaster, Le Moyne, Canisius, Western Ontario and unattached runners will all compete on Friday. On the women's side, there will be nine teams competing in the event, Western Ontario, Connecticut, McMaster, Binghamton, Vermont, Canisius, Le Moyne, Colgate, Daemen and unattached runners.
The UB men will have 18 runners compete in the home race including eight freshman who will compete in the Stampede for the first time in their Buffalo careers. The Bulls will be looking for strong efforts from Benjamin Cardamone, Dylan Servos and Christopher Nowak, all of which collected top-10 finishes in the season-opening Harry Lang Invitational. Matthew Mercer, Patrick Hazlitt, John McCarthy and Tom Meehan will also be looking for improvement this week after earning top-20 finishes at the Bulls first event of the fall season.
On the women's side, 14 UB runners will be competing in the home event led by sophomore Stephanie Ward who is setting her sights on another victory after taking home first place at the Harry Lang Invitational two weeks ago in a time of 16:55.60. Sylvia Russell and Christiana Berge will also be looking to build on their top-10 performances in the opening meet of the season. Meghan LaTuso, Anastasia Kurdziel and Sydney Bova each recorded top-20 finishes and will be looking to improve this week for the Bulls.
