Cross Country Makes Strides At Lehigh Paul Short Invitational On Friday

BETHLEHEM, PA – The University at Buffalo men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Bethlehem, PA on Friday to compete in the 44th annual Lehigh Paul Short Invitational. The Bulls competed in the women's gold race, the men's brown race and open races on Friday.

The Bulls competed against division I, II and III teams that are ranked regionally and nationally on Friday. The Buffalo women were able to notch a 19th place finish out of 42 programs in the women's gold race as they collected 589 points while the UB men finished in first place out of 19 teams in the brown race.

The 19th place finish was very impressive for the UB women and leading the way once again for the Bulls was sophomore Stephanie Ward who recorded a 13th place finish in a season-best 20:20.00. Senior Morgan Mahoney finished off her race in 65th place in 20:58.00 while Sylvia Russell collected a 142nd place showing in a season-best time of 21:39.00.

In the women's open race, junior Rachel Barich turned in a season-best time of 22:20.00 en route to a team-best 35th place finish. Senior Carlye Stella took home 137th place in 24:08.00 while freshman Alanna Kramer posted a 142nd place finish in 24:13.00.

On the men's side, the Bulls were able to beat out George Washington and Siena for the win in the brown race behind a fourth place finish by sophomore William Hilbert who posted a season-best time of 24:54.00 in the 8K race. Junior Dan Muldoon continued his strong start to the season as he collected an eighth place finish in 25:16.00 while Dylan Servos had a season-best 12th place finish in 25:21.00. Senior John McCarthy and freshman Christopher Nowak were each able to collect a top-20 finish, taking home 15th and 20th places respectively.

In the men's open 8K, Matthew Mercer was able to lead the Bulls with a 27th place finish in a season-best time of 25:30.00 while freshman Justin Schramm earned a 82nd place finish in 26:07.00. The freshman duo of Oscar Vazquez and Max Glazowski also competed in the open division, finishing in 26:40.00 and 27:55.00 respectively.

The Bulls will have a week off before returning to action on Friday, October 13 as they travel to Penn State for the PSU National XC Invite. The race will begin at 10:00 am.
