BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo sophomore Stephanie Ward was named Mid-American Conference Runner of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Ward collected her first weekly recognition of the season after a strong performance at the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational on Friday.
Ward had a great showing on Friday afternoon as she was able to gather a 13th place finish out of 369 runners at the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational. She turned in a personal record time of 20:20.00 as she helped UB post a 19th place team finish in the field of 42 teams. Ward finished with a season-best mile pace of 5:27 as she was able to become the highest UB finisher in the event.
On the year, Ward has collected a pair of victories to go along with the 13th place finish last weekend. The sophomore has turned into one of the most consistent runners in the MAC and she will look to build on her strong start to the season when the Bulls head to Penn State on October 13 for the PSU National XC Meet.
