BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo cross country team will hit the road on Saturday morning for the Mid-American Conference Championships which are being held in Oxford, OH by the University of Miami. The men's race is scheduled for 11:00 am followed by the women's race shortly afterward.
Both teams will be looking to build off of their performances at the 2016 MAC Championships when the men took home third place and the women finished in sixth place.
The Bulls are hitting their stride as of late as the men are coming off of a victory at the Canisius Alumni Meet last time out. The men's squad is being led this year by junior Dan Muldoon who has been the Bulls top finisher in each event this season including a third place finish at Canisius last time out. Jack Jibb, William Hilbert and senior John McCarthy have also shown improvement through the first part of the season and will be looking for a strong race on Saturday.
On the women's side, sophomore Stephanie Ward has continued to show her class as she has claimed highest finisher for the Bulls in each event this season. After winning the UB Stampede, Ward had a strong race at the Penn State National Open last time out as she claimed 17th place in 20:46. Buffalo will also be looking for sophomore Sylvia Russell to continue her growth while Morgan Mahoney and Laura Libruk will also be leaned upon heavily to help the Bulls improve on their sixth place finish at the MAC Championships last year.
Each race this season has just been a stepping stone leading up to the larger picture: the Mid-American Conference Championships and NCAA Regionals. Following Saturday's MAC race, the Bulls will host the NCAA Northeast Regional meet on November 10 at the Audobon Golf Course.
