UB Softball in the Community

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo softball team has been making a name for themselves around the University and the city of Buffalo, having recently participated in UB's Annual Linda Yalem Run for Safety and the 2009 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk.
The team participated in the Linda Yalem Safety Run for the fifth consecutive year on September 27th, 2009. The 20th annual 5K Linda Yalem run is one of UB's most enduring traditions, honoring a UB student that was killed while running on the Ellicot Creek bike path in 1990. The UB Softball team takes great pride in the traditions of the University and UB Athletics. This is one event that raises awareness for the importance of taking control over your own personal safety while running and walking around the community.
"This is a great UB sponsored event. It is even more important to our softball program because of the direct effect that it has had on campus safety and awareness. We were happy to do our part in giving back!" said head coach Jennifer Teague.
The UB Softball team also participated in the 2009 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, an event that goes on around the country with efforts to raise money to beat breast cancer. The Softball team raised over $1,600 for the walk that took place Sunday, October 4th, 2009 in downtown Buffalo.
"This is a great event that we are very passionate about. So many people are directly affected by or have known someone that has been affected by cancer, especially breast cancer. This is one way that UB Softball can show our support as a team and represent the University while raising money for a great cause," said coach Teague.
The softball team joined over 2,000 walkers in downtown Buffalo in support of the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Every step counts!
