BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York women's rowing team has added a pair of student-athletes, head coach Sandy Calfo announced on Friday. Gina 'Tory' Igoe and Emma Napper will join the team this spring.
Igoe is a transfer from George Washington University where she earned one of five walk-on spots on the Colonials novice team. She rowed in the Novice 4 at the Head of the Occoquan where she finished sixth. Igoe is a native of East Amherst, NY and attended Buffalo Seminary High School.
"We are excited to have Tory join us," Calfo said. "We know that after earning one of a few walk-on spots at a competitive program, she will bring us enthusiasm, hard work and dedication. We are looking forward to watching her grow here at UB."
Napper hails from New Zealand. She most recently competed at both the Bankstream National Championships (Club Championships) and the Maadi Cup (secondary school national championships). At the Bankstream this year she finished eighth in the A final of the Women's Club Pair and received the bronze in the Women's Senior Eight. At the MAADI Cup she placed fifth in the B final for the U18 Women's Pair and received a silver medal in the U18 quad. Her school also placed third overall for best sculling.
"Emma will add a solid amount of racing experience and high level of competiveness," Calfo said. "We are excited to have Emma join us mid-year, where she can help this program work towards our goal of getting faster and gaining speed."
The Bulls will open the spring portion of the schedule on March 26 when they compete at the Murphy Cup.
