Bulls Split a Pair of Duals at Clarion

CLARION, PA – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York wrestling team (6-4, 0-2 MAC) split a pair of duals on Saturday, beating Clarion, 28-12, and falling to Appalachian State, 19-12, at Clarion University.
After the Bulls dropped the first two matches against Clarion, James Benjamin pinned Dustin Conti for the first of three fall victories against the Golden Eagles. Kyle Akins also won by fall over Travis Jones at 125 lbs. Tyler Rill earned the Bulls third pin of the match over Troy Braddock at 165 lbs.
Bryan Lantry won by major decision over Roshaun Cooley, 11-3, at 133 lbs. Addrian Ferrerie earned the first dual victory of his career, winning a 10-3 decision over Jake Keller at 157 lbs. Jake Gunning earned his sixth dual victory of the season with a 7-4 decision over Zach DeLuca at 285 lbs.
The Bulls dropped a close dual to Appalachian State, 19-12. Benjamin was a winner again for UB, defeated Randall Diabe, 16-11. Akins also improved to 2-0 on the day with an 11-7 decision over Vito Pisone. Lantry earned his second victory with a 5-1 decision over Jacob Grigg. However, that would be the last match the Bulls would win as the Mountaineers closed out the dual with three straight victories.
Also earning a win for the Bulls was Jake Ariola who earned a 10-3 decision over Appalachian State's Marcus Johnson at 184 lbs. Ariola improved to 6-3 in duals on the season.
"It was a day of mixed results," head coach John Stutzman said. Congratulations to the guys, they are competing hard. We still need to learn to win the close ones. Overall though we are 6-4 and we have more wins than last year - so that's a plus."
The Bulls will next travel to Chicago to compete at the Midlands on December 29-30.
