
Bulls Drop MAC Opener at Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, MI – The University at Buffalo, the State University of New York wrestling team dropped the opener of the Mid-American Conference season to Eastern Michigan, 30-3, in Ypsilanti, MI on Sunday afternoon.
Jake Gunning continued his impressive season by winning at the heavyweight division for the Bulls lone win. Gunning won a 4-3 decision over Gage Hutchinson to improve to 5-1 on the year.
The Bulls lost close matches in three other weight classes as Muhamed McBryde dropped a 3-2 decision to Jacob Davis at 174 lbs., James Benjamin fell to Anthony Abro, 4-3, at 197 lbs. and Colt Cotten lost an 8-6 decision to Nicholas Barber at 149 lbs.
Head Coach John Stutzman was disappointed with his team's effort on Sunday.
"Not a good day. We wrestled without emotion, energy, hustle and fight," Stutzman said. "This is not what we are about. Jake Gunning continued to impress and Colt [Cotten], Muhamed [McBride] and Benji [James Benjamin] wrestled hard."
The Bulls will host their first home match of the season on Friday night when Gardner Webb comes to Alumni Arena.
